Wrapping is very hot and has a wide range of applications. Apart from your kitchen, you can also have your car wrapped. But what exactly is car wrapping? In this article we will explain what car wrapping is, what the advantages are and what the possibilities are. Car wrapping, what is that?

The partial or total covering of a car with wrap film (vinyl film) is called car wrapping. With the help of this special film, a car is completely wrapped or just partially stickered, so that a totally new look is created. This is possible because vinyl film is extremely malleable. This makes it possible to follow all the lines and shapes of your car. Besides the complete wrapping of a car, the so-called full body wrap, only (under-)parts of a car can be wrapped. Think of a roof, bumpers and mirror caps. Wrap film can be applied to all painted parts.

What are the advantages of car wrapping?

Car wrapping has several advantages:

A completely new look

Wrapping allows you to give your car a totally new and unique look in a relatively cheap way. Maybe you have seen enough of the current colour of your car or you want that trendy carbon look.
Wrapping is a temporary metamorphosis. You do not have to have your car permanently resprayed. Wrapping versus repainting is also cheaper because it is less labour-intensive. Just as easily as your car can be fitted with new film, the film can also be removed. All you need is a hot air gun and an adhesive remover (find out more about this beforehand). The original colour of the car will then reappear. Wrapping is therefore an inexpensive way to give your car a different colour and appearance.

Protective layer

Wrapping can also be used preventively. By wrapping a car you protect the original paintwork of your car optimally because it blocks the ultraviolet sunlight. When you have the foil removed, the original paintwork is still fully intact. This optimal protection ultimately results in a higher sales value. On average, the service life of a wrap film is three to ten years. The service life depends on the quality of the wrap film, the type of film, the maintenance and environmental factors.

Advertising purposes

Instead of having a car lettered, a car can also be partially painted. In this way, it is very easy to advertise a company or a business. Images or the company logo can be printed on the vinyl film to be applied. And if the company logo changes or some other adjustment needs to be made? The film is easy to remove and in no time you are driving around with the right advertising or data again.

Car wrapping colours

Wrap film is available in various colours and designs. Due to the wide range of colours and styles, you can personalise your car even with minor adjustments. The result is a car with a unique appearance. For example, give your car the much sought-after carbon effect. Wrap film is available in the most unusual colours. Of course, this comes at a price. Wrap film in a "standard" colour like matt black or metallic red is cheaper than in a more exclusive colour. Of course, you don't have to wrap your entire car to achieve a special effect. As mentioned above, you do need to report a colour change to the RDW.

Can any car be wrapped?

Wrap around film can be applied to any smooth paint finish. However, if your car's paintwork has deep scratches, rust spots or porous areas, the film will not adhere or will not adhere well.

How should a wrapped car be maintained?

It is advised to wash wrapped cars by hand, but it is also possible to drive them through a car wash without brushes. If you do it carefully, you can even clean a wrapped car with a high-pressure sprayer.
Remove bird droppings as soon as possible. Just like regular paint, bird droppings eat into a wrap.
Has your car been given a carbon, satin or matt wrap? Never wax your car. Over time, it will make your car shine, which will detract from the intended effect.
Therefore, always use a product that is specifically intended for the respective wrap (shiny, matt, printed).
