After several jobs on the executive floors of other car manufacturers, Walter P. Chrysler founded one of the most high-profile American brands under his name in 1925. Just three years later, he acquired the much larger Dodge Brothers, also integrating De Soto, Imperial and Plymouth - the basis for the third-largest US manufacturer after General Motors and Ford. Chrysler was doing well, the cars were known for their good quality and they were successful in racing. And yet, by the end of 1977, Chrysler was bankrupt. But the new boss, Lee Iacocca, managed to avert the threat of bankruptcy and survive with new, more compact models against the growing number of competitors from Japan.<\/p>\n
In 1998, German-American DaimlerChrysler was formed following a merger. In January 2014, the originally Italian Fiat became the owner of the car brand to merge it with Lancia. This means that Chryslers are sold in Europe as Lancia.and it no longer brings cars to the European market. However, Chrysler used cars are still widely available.<\/p>\n
