Useful information about SubaruSubaru history
Subaru is the car brand of Japanese conglomerate Fuji Heavy Industries and the largest producer of all-wheel drive vehicles in the world. At least that is what the relatively small brand claims. What is undisputed, however, is that Subaru is always at the forefront when it comes to customer satisfaction. The brand is also known for motorsport, particularly the World Rally Championship: the team won three world championships from 1995 to 1997; Colin McRae (1995), Richard Burns (2001) and Petter Solberg (2003) became world champions in a Subaru before the brand withdrew from the world championship in 2008. Many of the Subaru cars sold in Europe had all-wheel drive, only the sports car Subaru BRZ (also known as Toyota GT86), developed in collaboration with Toyota, has been breaking this rule since 2012 and only has rear-wheel drive. Today, the model range extends from the Trezia minivan to the Impreza, Legacy and Forester to the new Subaru SV SUV. Not to mention the WRX STI, which, with 300bhp, is reminiscent of old rally glory.
The name 'Subaru' refers to the (Japanese name for the) star cluster 'M45' or 'The 7 Sisters'. According to the transmission, one of the sisters is invisible. The Subaru logo therefore shows 6 instead of 7 stars. Those six stars simultaneously refer to the companies merged in the creation of Fuji Heavy Industries.
